Subtitleeditor
In Debian GNU/Linux 13 Trixie you can find the subtitleeditor packages which contains the graphical program of the same name.
For the workflow I'm interested in (adding descriptive subtitles to travel footage), I need a few simple features:
- Insert a title at the current position in the video
- Move the title forward or backward in the timeline
- Extend or shorten the duration
The program allows you to assign shortcut keys to various functions. These are the configurations I have implemented:
| I | /ClipboardPlugin/clipboard-paste-at-player-position |
|---|---|
| 1 | /VideoPlayerManagement/video-player/skip-backwards-frame |
| 2 | /VideoPlayerManagement/video-player/skip-forward-frame |
| Q | /VideoPlayerManagement/video-player/play-pause |
| A | /VideoPlayerManagement/video-player/skip-backwards-very-short |
| S | /VideoPlayerManagement/video-player/play-current-subtitle |
| Z | /AdjustTimePlugin/remove-from-start-and-from-duration |
| X | /AdjustTimePlugin/add-to-start-and-to-duration |
| C | /AdjustTimePlugin/remove-from-duration |
| V | /AdjustTimePlugin/add-to-duration |
- Open the .srt subtitle file: menu File ⇒ New or File ⇒ Open
- Open the video file: Video ⇒ Open
- Add the waveform (real or dummy): Waveform ⇒ Generate Waveform from Video or Waveform ⇒ Generate Dummy Waveform.
